On June 13, according to foreign media reports, the Brazilian Sugar Industry Association (Unica) will release production data for the second half of May on Tuesday.
According to survey data from the S&P Goldman Sachs Commodity Index (S&PGSCI), sugar production in the south-central region of Brazil is expected to be 2.77 million tons in the second half of May, an increase of nearly 20% year-on-year.
The survey showed sugar mills lost just 1.3 days of production amid favorable weather in the second half of May, allowing harvest to proceed smoothly and process a near-record sugarcane crop.
Analysts expect sugar cane crushing in the second half of May to be 45.39 million tons, up 3.5% year-on-year; ethanol (including corn ethanol) production to be 2.03 billion liters, down 7.3% year-on-year.
The proportion of cane crushed for sugar production was 48.8%, up from 43.1% in the previous year.
