National Bureau of Statistics of China: CPI rose 0.2% year-on-year in May, PPI fell 4.6% year-on-year

In May 2023, the national consumer price rose by 0.2% year-on-year. Among them, the urban price increased by 0.2%, and the rural area increased by 0.1%; food prices increased by 1.0%, and non-food prices remained the same; consumer goods prices decreased by 0.3%, and service prices increased by 0.9%. On average from January to May, the national consumer price rose by 0.8% over the same period of the previous year.

In May 2023, the ex-factory price of industrial producers nationwide decreased by 4.6% year-on-year and 0.9% month-on-month; the purchase price of industrial producers decreased by 5.3% year-on-year and 1.1% month-on-month. On average from January to May, the ex-factory price of industrial producers decreased by 2.6% compared with the same period last year, and the purchasing price of industrial producers decreased by 2.3%.
