Consumer Confidence Weighs on Markets

A disappointing consumer confidence report from the Conference Board put pressure on stocks on Tuesday. Recent economic data, including weak retail sales and low consumer sentiment, have raised concerns about the state of the economy. These reports have contributed to the declines in the major stock indexes over the past week.

Nvidia Earnings to Impact Market

Investors are eagerly awaiting Nvidia’s fourth-quarter earnings report, set to be released after the market close on Wednesday. The results could serve as a major market catalyst.

The timing of Nvidia’s earnings report is crucial. The rise of DeepSeek has raised doubts about the future of the popular artificial intelligence sector. Nvidia and other tech companies that once saw explosive growth are now facing challenges, with Nvidia’s stock down more than 5% this year.

“I expect Nvidia’s earnings report to resemble the one from September,” said Aswath Damodaran, a finance professor at NYU Stern School of Business, on CNBC’s Closing Bell on Tuesday. “The company will likely exceed analyst expectations, but the market might still be disappointed due to higher expectations.”

Other Earnings Reports to Watch

Other significant earnings reports on Wednesday include Lowe’s, TJX, and Salesforce, which could also influence market sentiment.

Key Economic Data This Week

On Wednesday, investors will also watch for data on new home sales and building permits. The most anticipated economic event will be the release of the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index on Friday. The PCE is the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation and will be closely scrutinized by investors.
