On June 20, affected by rainy weather, railway maintenance and labor shortages, coal exports from Australia’s Newcastle port may hit the lowest level in at least five years.
According to figures released by the Port of Newcastle, the port exported about 116.7 million tonnes of coal in the 11 months to the end of May this financial year.
This compares with exports of more than 154 million tons in both fiscal years 2022 and 2021, and more than 160 million tons in both fiscal years 2020 and 2019.
